Whatever the opposite of gatekeeping is, THIS is that
Exposing all my money privileges, explaining how I currently save and invest my money, and sharing my spending habits for 2025
You know I hate the girl bosses, right?
I’m sure you do. I’m open about it.
And this public declaration of my hatred for classic girl boss energy is making me feel a little bit uneasy about talking about money so transparently, but I’m determined to power through.
Now, let me be clear about which specific #girlboss energy I don’t like:
The spammy, scammy, fluffy shit.
I have NO problem with women getting their bag — in fact, every single mentee I’ve ever taught, I’ve encouraged price increases, money-making strategies, business growth… that’s not the issue.
I WANT women to be rich.
I want women to flaunt their wealth like their #boyboss counterparts do without judgment.
I can’t stand the current narrative about women earning money, or the fact that women have to work twice as hard to do so, and then get reprimanded when they talk about money, or success.
So, I assure you, it’s not that I don’t want the girl bosses to be RICH.
It’s that I don’t want them to get rich by scamming other people into buying shitty, fluff-filled online courses, or convincing them sell weird lotion as some elaborate MLM scheme, or using sketchy fear-based marketing tactics to make innocent people think they’re not “good enough” unless they buy the latest whatever the f it is.
You feel me?
Girl Bosses, no.
Girls being bosses, absolutely yes.
And while I may hate #girlboss energy, I don’t condone any hate about women talking about their money. 💅🏼
I’m about to do it for 52 more weeks straight.
And since that’s a journey we’re going on together, I think it’s time we talk about…
My relationship with money and privilege
Despite me crying about my shopaholism last week, I’ve been smart with money my entire life.
For this, of course, we mainly have my privilege to thank — y’all know that I’ll never miss an opportunity to point out that privilege plays a massive role in your relationship to money (obviously)
Now that I’ve committed to transparently talking about $$$ on the Internet for a year, I do need to mention that there’s no way I would be in the situation I am in now if I hadn’t grown up in the environment that I did, had the teachers that I did, worked the jobs that I did, went to college where I did, or looked the way I did.
(The outgoing personality also wildly helps, too.)
*deep breath* SO! I’m gonna admit my privileges to you, because I think it’s an important disclosure to make before we spend the next 52 weeks talking about making money, spending money, and saving money.
