TOC #237: I can't ignore this any longer
(July 8, 2025) SARA'S SUMMER OFF: finally taking unsubscribers' feedback to heart and trying to make my newsletter less valuable...
If this had only happened on one occasion, I might have ignored it.
But when two people told me this…
Then, not too long after that, a third made the same comment…
And, a few months later, a fourth confessed the same thing…
I thought: hmm. Is this a me problem?
After a brief moment of reflection (13 seconds maybe?) I came to the conclusion that…
Unfortunately…
…for them 😏 it actually wasn't a “me” problem at all.
But I will say: that 13 seconds did allow me to see their perspective, and maybe they've got a point!
I've had multiple people share with me that they had to unsubscribe from my newsletter because it was TOO valuable.
The amount of things I'm sharing every Tuesday morning became too much information to them, that it became overwhelming to implement.
And I totally get it!
When Website Girl comes into your inbox every week, giving you what essentially could be a full blog post's worth of tips, telling you what to fix and how to fix it and what to change and why you need to… I completely understand how that could be overwhelming.
Buuuut I don't really know how to stop.
I've never known what to ✨ do ✨ with this information, because I am, at my core, a long story long person.
I'm not one for one-word answers, or explanations without context, or responses without the full story…
(That last one gets on Side Character's nerves, I won't lie. The other day, I told him I was on the edge of my seat watching Love Island, and when he asked why, I gave him an entire recap of episodes 13-17, in excruciating detail, and when I was done, he said …so why are you on the edge of your seat? lmao oops!)
So, a newsletter where I tell you ONE thing to do? Yeah, couldn't be me.
But today, I figured I'd give it a go…

SOARING THROUGH THE SLOW SEASON
Listen to my podcast episode about 6 ways to get more business during a “slow” season and choose 1 to do today.
UNDER THE COPYWRITING UMBRELLA
Be significantly more specific than you think you need to be.
Add descriptive words, or qualifying language, or an unexpected adjective, or a conversational element, and watch your copy transform from boring to ‘biiiitch I need that!!!’
Here's an example from a recent client project:
❌ “Hi, I'm Rachel — Sleep Consultant for new parents”
✅ “Hey, I'm Rachel — Certified Sleep Consultant, Mom of 3, and Cry It Out's Biggest Hater (am I gonna get canceled for saying that?)”

SHELLING OUT MY BEST SQUIRREL TIP
Implement my “tiny tasks til ten” strategy — knock out as many takes-10-mins-or-less tasks as you can before 10am, so you don't have a zillion little things crowding your mental space before you jump into actual work.

THE LOVE-YOU-BYE LOVE NOTE
How'd I do?!?
I know that was technically me telling you four things to do this week, but it was 1 per section, so I think it still counts.
I don't know that I'll ever be okay with sending such a short newsletter again… I'm feeling kind of itchy right now…
*shivers*
Okay.
I love u.
Bye.
