TOC #233: I don't know where my next inquiry is coming from...
(June 10, 2025) SARA'S SUMMER OFF: why I'm not worried about not knowing where my next inquiry is coming from, how to make your own luck as a freelancer, and what to do when you're in a "slow" season
I don’t know when my next inquiry will come in.
I don’t know who my next inquiry will be from.
I don’t know how much my next project will pay me.
And I'm not worried about it one bit.
Because — apologies for the slight woo-woo in my voice here — for the last six years, everything has always worked out.
…but also because I have the correct foundations and systems in place to make sure that my online presence is ALWAYS working for me (SEO-optimized website copy, traffic-driving blogs, a consistent weekly newsletter, regularly scheduled Threads posts, email funnels, a network of people who refer me on the regular…)
AND because I'm of the mentality that, as a freelancer, there is ALWAYS more we can do to be proactive + make our own luck.
I always feel better when I can DO something to improve my situation, which is why I love working for myself so much — because I can DO something and put in effort to make myself feel like I'm moving the needle, instead of sitting and waiting and wondering and hoping and doing nothing.
So, today, we're focusing on the DOING.
BEACH CHAIR FRIENDLY BACK-END TASK
Want to bring in more business from your beach chair? Start on your phone.
I'm not one to condone your email living in your pocket, but I will allow Instagram and Threads (for an appropriate amount of time per day - I have mine at 90 mins on 3 work days per week, when I plan on using those apps most).
If you're overthinking everything you post on Threads → post 24 times in 24 hours. Nothing works better than good ole harmless exposure therapy.
If you've been wanting more engagement → how about giving the genuine engagement you're craving? If you want to have online friends, BE an online friend. Give a thoughtful response to 5 stories or posts today.
If you're hoping to get more eyes on your content → come up with a routine for your Instagram stories! People will start to notice when you're repeating the same things, because we're creatures drawn to consistency. (My friends Tori and Xanthe do this really well!)
& if you don't know where the fuck to start, I have a whole podcast episode about how to bring in business during a slow season!
SOARING THROUGH THE SLOW SEASON
The worst part about feeling like you're going through a “slow season” is keeping the momentum going.
No one wants to feel like they have to keeeep yapping about something when it feels like no one's listening and nothing is working.
Luckily, though, I happen to have just the thing! I hosted this challenge back in February and it breathed such life the sales & marketing of so many people — so I think you'll love doing it this time around, too.
My 28-day sales challenge is completely self-paced (do it whenever you want!) and commitment-free, so it's perfect for a summer slow(er!) season where you simply need help straight up thinking of what to say or how to market yourself / your offer.
Here's what comes with it 👇 for $40, you get…
→ 28 ways to market your offer—without feeling salesy, cringey, or like a walking infomercial
→ Guest expert strategies from people who really know their stuff (spoiler: we've got a launch expert, a case study expert, a community building expert, a Pinterest expert…)
→ 30 days of access to our Slack group for support, feedback, and proof that you’re not the only one overthinking this
Plus, because I KNOW you still have that little voice in your head whispering "but what if I'm annoying?" — you alsoo0o get these bonuses:
✨ Your Guide to Combatting the ‘I’m So Annoying’ Allegations (so you can sell with confidence instead of self-doubt)
✨ The Target Audience Development Workbook (because marketing feels way easier when you're talking to the right people)
✨ The Offer Development Workbook (to make sure your offer is built to sell in the first place)
✨ An Exhaustive List of Places to Market Your Offers (because one post isn’t enough—people need to see it everywhere)
REMEMBER: If you’re feeling annoying, you’re probably just now talking about your offer enough.
I'm personally most excited for Day 6, Day 14, and Day 24 — I think I might do this challenge right alongside you!

June 16: 30 reasons why someone should buy my ____ (insert your offer - I'll be making this same list for all of mine!)
(And if you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about or why I'm giving you these random journal prompts, read last week's newsletter here!)
THE LOVE-YOU-BYE LOVE NOTE
While we're on the subject of lists — and since it's the first week of summer aka the first week of true ferality for my 6-year-old — I figured I'd share a few fun things from the summer bucket list we made!
This will be the first time ever in my LIIIIFE I've had to entertain him for an entire summer, day in and day out, and “I'm freaking out” doesn't even begin to cover it :) Someone pray for me and my sanity :)
Here's what Wesley & I are excited to do:
Tie dye shirts
Visit the trampoline park
Make sand castles
Go to the Boston Children's Museum again (Side Character took us here for Woo's bday and he loved it)
Host a lemonade stand
Make these cardboard rainbows
Have a dance party
Go to the library (bet your ass we'll be at every free library event that exists, thank you very much)
Have a movie & pajama day
Color the entire driveway with chalk
And if you have any fun summer activities you and your fam are up to, hit “reply” and tell me! I only have him in camp for ⅓ of the summer and I'm open to IDEASSSS!
LOVE U BYE XO
